The Art of Autism stands in solidarity with the Black Community for Justice, Liberation, and Equality

The Art of Autism nonprofit writes today in solidarity with Black people in the pursuit of justice in the face of historical and continued racism, violence, and oppression. We would like to acknowledge the continued and necessary struggle to fulfill the the ideals of a nation that Black people built, and the struggle for justice of all of those in the African Diaspora.

We would like to acknowledge how racism affects the autistic and disabled community; with 1 in 4 Black Americans having a disability.

We stand against injustice and recognize the intersectionality that many Black Americans face as they navigate being the members of multiple minorities.

We affirm our commitment to being directly anti racist. We denounce all forms of systemic oppression including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, classism, ageism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-immigrant bias and white supremacy, and we affirm our commitment to speak out and actively not tolerate such oppression.

We affirm our commitment to support each other in the pursuit and realization of nothing less than full equality. Civil Rights are Disability Rights. Disability Rights are Civil Rights. We affirm our commitment to these human rights. We affirm our commitment to using our voices to amplify those of the Black community and those in the Black Autistic and Disabled Community. We affirm the values of honesty, transparency, and accountability.

We believe that we must make a future that ensures the human rights and full participation and dignity of everyone. We will continue to pursue and fight for that future.

We will fight against systemic racism and for equality of all minorities. For an understanding of systemic racism please view this video:
